in January 2020


Happy New Year from the Boyle County Public Library!
There's so much going on at the Library this month including a writing workshop, family events, a celebration of the Roaring Twenties, and a Kentucky Chautuaqua performance. For a complete list of upcoming events plus helpful resources visit www.BoylePubLib.org

The Library will have a delayed opening on
Friday, January 31 at 1:00 pm for staff training.

Kids & Tween Activities
Libby McWhorter and Kinsey Hisle offer fantastic programs for children and tweens. Weekly storytimes are offered on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and a Friday storytime is offered once a month.

This month: Saturday Morning Cartoons, Kids Science Club, LEGO Hogwarts Express Train building sessions, Family Movie Night, and more!

*Registration is required for some programs. Call or stop by the Children's Library to sign up.

An interpreter for the deaf is available upon request by calling the Library 48 hours in advance.

Teen Space: Mocktails

Play Nintendo Switch, eat pizza, and get creative! We'll be celebrating the Roaring Twenties with mocktails for everyone! (Storytime Room)
LibCrates Meetup

LibCrates is a subscription-style box that includes a free book and other fun things. Our January selection is Kingdom of Ash and Briars by Hannah West. (Mahan Gallery)

Set SMART Goals

A goal is a dream with a deadline! Learn how to make SMART goals to be successful in any way. SMART goals can be for health, finances, and anything to improve your lifestyle. In partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office. (Conference Room)

FOTL Annual Meeting & Kentucky Chautauqua Performance
Thursday, Jan. 23 • 5:00 pm
The Friends of the Library Annual Meeting will feature the Kentucky Chautauqua presentation of "Jean Ritchie: Damsel with a Dulcimer," featuring Rachel Lee Rogers. All are invited to attend this event.

About the performance: Perry County native Jean Ritchie spread Appalachian music far and wide throughout her life. She was an active force in the 1960s NYC folk scene and is credited with the revival of the mountain dulcimer. This program is funded in part by Kentucky Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities. (Community Room)

This group provides an atmosphere where members can share their creative work and receive helpful feedback. (Conference Room)
Adult Storytime • Mondays at 9:00 am
This is a social hour and book club for individuals with and without disabilities to utilize the library and pursue common interests together. (Community Room)
Adult Ed Class • Mondays at 5:00 pm
Want to earn your GED? The Boyle County Adult Education GED Program can help you for free! This weekly 2-hour class will be offered by Gail Jackson at the Library. (Mahan Gallery)

Crafters Who Care • Mondays at 3:00 pm
This group of crafters knit and crochet hats, scarves, and afghans to share with those in need. If you'd like to learn, they can teach you! (Ask at the Circulation Desk for room location.)
Memory Lab

Training Sessions & Lab Reservations

The Memory Lab is a grant-funded resource that enables people to digitize and preserve their histories. Located in the Computer Lab, it is made up of equipment and information used for conversion of analog formats to digital. It currently supports the following formats: VHS, cassette tapes, photographs, negatives, and slides. To arrange a training session or to reserve the Lab, go to boylepublib.org/memory-lab.
Outreach Services
The Library is committed to reaching all members of our community. Outreach staff Jana Oliver, Deb Brown, and Dana Benton spend much of their time on the road in the Bookmobile and the smaller outreach van. The Bookmobile is a WiFi hotspot and carries books for all ages, AV materials (including CD-Books and a small collection of DVDs), plus magazines and paperback books. On-the-go programming also includes story hours at day care centers and book discussion groups at senior centers and other facilities.
