COVINGTON, Ky. – Summer might be winding down (say it’s not so!), but the weekend is doing anything but, what with the stage(s) set for more concerts … a new musical … Clean & Crawl … and opportunities to grab some late-summer blooms and kick back with a good comic book.
But first …
… on the dance floor, that is. Not the kind you-have-to-beat-ever-so- carefully-to-achieve-the- perfect-peaks-for-your-pie kind of meringue … (but then again, they both involve heat and a beat, and that’s what Son Del Caribe is bringing to Music@BCM’s summer concert).
If it’s bomba, plena, or bachata that gets you moving, get out in front of this band tonight at Behringer-Crawford Museum in Devou Park.
Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, although children are free. Adult beverages are available for purchase. More HERE.
Mean, green mother from outer space…
A mild-mannered floral assistant … the woman he pines away for … and a singing, green, flesh-eating plant that aspires to world domination. It’s an American classic!
Little Shop of Horrors opens Friday at The Carnegie and, in case you “Suddenly” want to “Seymour,” the show runs through Aug. 22.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 6 p.m. show Sunday. More HERE.
Grab a trash bag and help pick up litter Sunday at the Covington Clean and Crawl, which of course as the name implies will involve more than getting your hands dirty.
Show up at Zola between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to pick up your shirt (while supplies last), garbage bags, and a tasty libation.
The, once your “chores” are finished, go to UpOver for the Post-Cleanup Happy Hour between 4 and 4:30 p.m. More HERE.
Madison Theater is back
Sail away on a wave of music … specifically, the one rolling in at Madison Theater with the three-night Late Night Voyage series at Covington’s favorite indoor live-music venue:
- First up Friday is Austin-based Psymbionic, who takes the stage with Indigo Child. More HERE.
- Saturday, it’s Shlump and keyboardist Jason Leech. Details HERE.
- And finally, on Sunday it’s Kar Pow, with Vice Versa’s euphoric summer vibes, and Sun Woo. More HERE.
Kapow!
Remember long Saturdays with a good comic book and your favorite superheroes? Those days are back … for one day, anyway.
Stop in for “Free Comic Book Day” at the Covington Branch of the Kenton County Library this Saturday. Come early and get your comics while they last. Event begins at 10 a.m., runs ’til 4 p.m. (One comic book per person.)
Then stick around for superhero movies and a comic book-inspired craft. (Yes, this is for all ages.) More HERE.
Bouquet of blooms
Treat yourself to a bodacious bouquet on Saturday, when Scarlet Begonia’s Flower Truck pops up at Covington Yard.
(While you’re there, take part in the fine tunes, tasty food, and chilly libations.)
The shiny blue truck full of flowers rolls in at 11 a.m. and sticks around until the last petal falls. More HERE.
Blaze a trail
Or at least help maintain one. Devou Park’s Third-Sunday Trailday runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Our community needs good trails, so why not volunteer to help maintain and construct them? No experience is needed. But bring your gloves, water, and safety glasses to the gravel lot trailhead off Sleep Hollow Road in Ludlow. Details HERE.
Miscellaneous…
And check out … Thursday night Wine Tasting at Crafts & Vines tonight. Get a reservation for 6 p.m. or 7:45 p.m. (we’re not judging – maybe do both?) More HERE. ... Ever wonder how your Starry Night might stand up to Van Gogh’s? Find out at Local Studio 325 Saturday evening for Van Gogh’s Starry Night Painting Class. $45 gets you all the materials, but the finished product is all on you. More HERE.
