COVINGTON, Ky. – It seems fitting that we can find some creative and calming things to do the weekend before we dive deep into the holiday season next week.
Hanging out with native owls sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday, right? Or how about helping kids paint a crosswalk street mural (or just watching them do their magic)?
Spend a day hiking or help maintain a trail. Solve a mystery while you eat a good meal (that someone else prepares). Or maybe now’s the time to calm your mind in preparation for the weeks ahead with a good yoga class. The bottom line is, take it easy but have some fun too.
Plan now for the big hunt
Sure, it’s great to have family and friends come together for Thanksgiving, but once that food coma sets in there’s sometimes no getting anyone off the couch.
Unless, of course, you can get everyone excited about a Thanksgiving Weekend Scavenger Hunt with clues placed throughout Covington’s cool neighborhoods.
Why are we telling you about this now? Because Friday is the last day to register for the “Finders Keepers Thanksgiving Weekend Scavenger Hunt.” We don’t want you to miss out. Details HERE.
Rapt by raptures
It’s not even like they’re the most conspicuous of birds, but there is something about owls, right?
Is it their eyes? Those massive, mesmerizing orbs? And is it true that you can see a portion of their eyeballs through their ear holes?
On Saturday, get all the answers as you get up close and personal with owls that are native to our area at Kenton County Library’s “All About Owls! with Raptor Inc.” Three live owls are showing up for the presentation. Details HERE.
Coolest crosswalks in the city
Join some of the The Cov’s youngest street artists for one more – and final – Covington Street Mural crosswalk painting event on Saturday.
The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington has organized these crosswalk mural painting events, and let’s just say that inviting kids to join in on the painting was a grand idea – these murals are beautiful.
So, you’ve got one last chance to be part of this cool creative effort on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Randolph Park, near the basketball courts. Details HERE.
How about a hike?
Hit the trail on Saturday with Parks & Rec’s fourth and final Urban Hike Series of the season.
The Paved Trail Hike runs under three miles, and you can count on a walk that is mild to moderately paced. More HERE.
Who did it?
Feel like solving a crime beyond your latest favorite British mystery series?
You can point fingers while you dine at Saturday’s Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show at Embassy Suites RiverCenter.
It’s the largest interactive murder mystery dinner theater and, just so you know, the culprit will be hiding in plain sight somewhere in the room.
You just might find yourself as a prime suspect, so maybe keep your head down and eat. Details HERE.
Maintain the trails
Maybe you won’t be blazing a new trail, but you can sure help maintain the good trails at Devou Park, if you’re so inclined.
Sunday is Devou Trail Improvement Day … no experience necessary and all the tools you need will be provided.
Bring good hiking shoes, water, and gloves, and several lead trail stewards will guide and train. More HERE.
Vintage shopping & cocktails
Sure, Green House Bar can pour you a fine cocktail, but on Sunday they’ve also got a vintage home goods and secondhand clothing pop up going on.
Lots of local vendors bringing their wares and you just might find that mid-century modern piece you’ve been looking for to tie that room together … or that perfect vintage outfit you need for the coming holiday soirees. So, plan to sip and shop. Details HERE.
Seek some peace
If just thinking about the holidays has you clenching your jaw, exacerbating your already painful TMJ, there’s a place to seek some peace.
