EKU Sweeps IU Indy In Cincy

CINCINNATI, Ohio –
 Eastern Kentucky University beat Indiana University-Indianapolis 3-0 on Friday at the Xavier Tournament in Cincinnati.
 
EKU (3-1) won by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-12.
 
The Colonels got off to a slow start, falling behind 4-1 and 8-4 early in the first set.  After a timeout, EKU scored six unanswered to turn it into a 10-8 lead.  Emilee Hill got it started with a kill and tied it 8-8 with another kill.  Freshman Addison Burke served up an ace to finish the run.  The Colonels led the rest of the way, taking a 7-point lead at 20-13 on a kill from AG Hynes.  Hynes ended the set with a kill for a 1-0 lead for her team.
 
EKU scored the first three points of the second set and never trailed. 
 
The Jaguars scored the first three points of the third set and went in front 5-4 on a kill by Chloe Macias.  Sophomore newcomer Amanda Mack tied it at five and EKU took control.  Mack's point started a run of four straight to make it 8-5.  Two straight IU Indy attack errors handed the Colonels a 5-point advantage, 11-6.  Block assists from Carson Ledford and Hill pushed the margin to seven, 14-7, and forced a timeout.  After the Jaguars closed to within eight, 20-12, EKU scored the final five points of the set to complete the sweep. 
 
The Colonels entered the match ranked 41st in the nation with an opponents' hitting percentage of .136.  On Friday, EKU held IU Indy to a .038 attack percentage.
 
Mack had a match-high 11 kills and only one error for a .625 attack percentage.  Ledford had six kills, no errors and five blocks.  Trahan led all players with 11 digs.
 
As a team, EKU posted a .402 attack percentage for the match, making just six errors in 87 attempts.  The Jaguars had 21 errors in 80 attempts.  The Colonels had a 7-3 advantage in blocks and an 8-4 edge in aces.
 
Morgan Ostrowski had seven kills and two blocks for IU Indy (3-2).
 
The Colonels will wrap up play at the Xavier Tournament on Saturday against Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. and Xavier at 7 p.m.
